Jon Stewart Goes Full North Korea with Effusive Praise of Trump on The Daily Show

Jon Stewart took an unexpected turn hosting The Daily Show on Thursday night, praising “the perfectly-tinted” “great father,” Donald Trump, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension from ABC’s airwaves.

Rather than comment on Kimmel’s suspension directly, Stewart took the genius approach of illustrating a not-so-distant future in which all media is “administration-compliant.” “We’re coming to you tonight from a real shithole, the crime-ridden cesspool that is New York City,” he said to introduce the episode. Broadcasting from a gold palace and wearing Trump’s trademark garb (a suit and red tie), Stewart spent the first ten or so minutes lavishing effusive praise on the president.

Eventually he addressed the Trump administration’s censorship of Kimmel by pointing out its own hypocrisy in restricting free speech. “Now, some naysayers may argue that the Administration’s speech concerns are merely a cynical ploy, a thin gruel of a ruse, a smoke screen to obscure an unprecedented consolidation of power and unitary intimidation; principle-less and coldly antithetical to any experiment in a constitutional republic governance,” Stewart quipped. “Some people would say that. Not me, though, I think it’s great.”

To illustrate his point, Stewart played several clip packages featuring Trump officials and their sycophants. One focused on Trump officials spreading blatantly inaccurate information on television, while another highlighted figures like Donald Trump Jr., Kari Lake, Rachel Duffy, Pete Hegseth, and Trump himself, joking about violence against liberals. The irony, of course, is that conservatives have called for Kimmel’s show to be pulled from ABC over these very issues.
