Kristen Stewart has said in a recent interview that she would be open to directing a reboot of Twilight.

Having begun her career as a child actor in movies such as Panic Room and Zathura, Stewart would be propelled to worldwide stardom in 2008 as Bella Swan, the lead in the Twilight saga, opposite Robert Pattinson.

She would star in all five Twilight movies, before moving in a different direction with her career in arthouse movies such as Spencer and Love Lies Bleeding. While the success of the films put both actors under intense media scrutiny, Stewart still retains a fondness for the franchise.

When asked by Entertainment Tonight if she would like to return to direct a hypothetical reboot, she replied: “I would love — look. I love what [original director] Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what [sequel director] Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies.”

She continued: “They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.”

Stewart remarked that she would want a “huge budget” and “a bunch of love and support” from fans in order to make it work, before talking herself into the prospect. “Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake,” she added. “I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

Kristen Stewart is currently promoting her debut directorial feature, The Chronology Of Water, which is released in UK cinemas on February 6. Recently, she described Hollywood as a “capitalist hell” at the moment, because it’s “too hard to make movies that aren’t blockbusters”.

She would also hit out at the gender inequality in the film industry, saying: “Such a pitiful number of films from the past year have been made by women. Our business is in a state of emergency, man.”
