Alaska has become the face of an exciting new direction for the country's eclectic rap scene. Drawing from cloud rap, EDM and hyperpop – as well her contemporaries such as Alvia Islandia – her rise has been helped by Prikið – Iceland's most iconic and oldest café venues – which by night is the beating heart of the country's rap scene. An incubator, as much as a stage for artists to find their flow, its offshoot label Sticky Records runs on pro-bono model and put out Alska's debut album 222 last year.
"Músalagið" is a new song and the first to be released from Alaska's upcoming second album, due to drop in the coming months. Produced by Davidfr, it was written in the summer of 2025 and translates as "The Mouse Song". "Despite the name, it’s not literally about a mouse," Alaska explains. "'Músalagið' is about curiosity and heartbreak."
The session - which you can watch above - is supported by Record in Iceland, a reimbursement scheme offered by Iceland’s Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education that gives anyone who records their music in Iceland a 25% refund on recording costs incurred in Iceland. All you need to do is submit the total cost related to your recording – including travel, wages and even post-production like mixing and mastering. The refund will go through in the following quarter. It’s that easy – and makes Iceland the smart and easy choice for anyone wanting to find an inspiring location to record their next album.
