Kurt Vile has revealed that his new album, Philadelphia’s been good to me, will be released May 29th via Verve Records. He has also put out the lead single, “Chance to Bleed,” and announced a massive run of 2026 North American and European tour dates. Stream the track below.
Philadelphia’s been good to me, written from 2023 to 2026, marks Vile’s 10th studio album and follows 2022’s (watch my moves). The new LP was recorded between sessions in Memphis, Los Angeles, and Athens, but got most of its magic from Vile’s basement studio in the northwestern part of Philly. Pre-orders are ongoing.
“This is my ‘bringing it all back home to Philly’ record,” Vile said in a statement. “I’m treating it like my last record. I put everything into it. It’s my best vocal record. It’s my best electric guitar record. It’s my most organic record, made in the comfort of my own zone.”
Vile’s tour in support of Philadelphia’s been good to me kicks off June 16th at History in Toronto, Ontario. The first leg hits Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, Brooklyn, and more before wrapping up in August. The second leg will stop throughout Europe and the UK in cities like Amsterdam, Paris, and London before he comes back stateside for more US dates throughout November, including St. Louis, New Orleans, and Baltimore. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, April 10th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
First single “Chance to Bleed” is hypnotic, no-frills rock that Vile describes as “hillbilly techno.” Over crunchy, soulful guitar riffs, a fat-snared groove, and hearty bass, he sings, “You got a chance to bleed now/ With that old time, lo-fi, DIY, rock ‘n’ roll nights… In real time, from the heart, playing live, band o’ bros/ Down South, East Coast blues on a comeback/ And I’ve been coming back my whole damn life.”
Fitting with the album’s title and overall theme, the single’s video was filmed at the long-running local music venue Kung Fu Necktie. Capturing the spirit of Vile’s corner of Philadelphia’s music scene, the clip features guest vocalists Natalie Hoffman, Ethan Buckler, and Greg Cartwright alongside comedian Jim E Brown and gangsta rap pioneer Schoolly D.
