Singer Donita Sparks and guitarist Suzi Gardner founded L7 in 1985, and they are going to celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary with a special concert in their Los Angeles hometown. The show takes place on Friday, October 3, at the Belasco, and joining L7 on the bill are co-headliners Lunachicks and CSS. More performers will be announced soon.
Donita Sparks curated the lineup for the anniversary show. In a statement, she said, “I think all three of our bands share a certain sense of humor, political right-on-ness, and bombastic energy, so, look out, mellow ones… you will be rocking! Come on out and join our celebration.”
L7 released their self-titled debut in 1988. By 1990’s Smell the Magic, they had established their classic lineup of Sparks, Gardner, bassist Jennifer Finch, and drummer Demetra Plakas. L7 disbanded in 2001, but they got back together in the mid-2010s and shared a reunion album, Scatter the Rats, in 2019.
