Lamb Of God dropped their first single in three years this past Thursday (2nd October), "Sepsis," via Epic Records. With production done by Josh Wilbur, the bass-line drives the intense yet trudging instrumentals, pulling a bit more grunge into their sound than before.
The new single lands during a successful period in Lamb Of God's career, as they celebrate their technically 25th anniversary as Lamb Of God. However, the single doesn't look forward, rather it reflects on who they were before they were known as the culturally iconic band they are now – back when they were Burn The Priest. Guitarist Mark Morton explained, "'Sepsis' is a celebration of the very underground local bands here in Richmond that we really admired when we were just forming Burn the Priest."
"Bands like Breadwinner, Sliang Laos, and Ladyfinger – though they never got widespread attention outside of Richmond, those were the bands we listened to all the time. The song references that stuff in a way that's a direct line to where we were coming from when we were in the basement writing our earliest material together."
And, the next day (3rd October), Lamb Of God fans at Aftershock Festival had an absolute treat as the band debuted "Sepsis" for the first time. You can watch fan-footage of the performance above.
After Aftershock, Lamb Of God are slated to perform at AMMA Championship Fest, as well as at their second annual Headbangers Boat cruise (October 31 through November 4).
The four-day floating festival sails from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico, and hosts performances from Clutch, Power Trip, Kublai Khan TX, Obituary, Fear Factory, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Exploited, Crowbar, Nekrogoblikon, and more — plus comedy from Josh Potter and Saul Trujillo, with hosting duties from Jose Mangin and Riki Rachtman. Tickets are available now at Headbangersboat.com.
