LIFE to return with fourth album, ABSTRACT / NATURAL

ABSTRACT / NATURAL, which is released in June via EMI North Records label partner Launchpad+ follows the band’s 2022 albumNorth East Coastal Town, with “The Dollywaggon” arriving as the introduction to their new work. The track was written during singer Mez Sanders-Green‘s 193-mile coast to coast walk across the UK, rooting it in a sense of adventure.

Discussing the single, Sanders-Green says: “‘The Dollywaggon’s universal theme is about letting go and moving on - new adventures and beginnings. I wrote the lyrics whilst doing a long distance walk, turning what I saw into characters and scenes. I like to think it sounds like a pulpy Northern-based western - cryptic placards, farmers hanging dead moles on chicken wire, phallic mountains, pikes and ridges, Mother Earth always winning. The middle-8 feels like a salute to the new. In many ways, the track became the blueprint for the whole record.”

The album itself began as a poetry book written by Sanders-Green, which references folklore and nature alongside perspectives of fatherhood and personal growth, with the music developed around characters Hen Comb, Pavey Arc, Sergeant Man, The Grey Friar and The Dollywaggon by fellow LIFE members Stewart Baxter and Oliver Varga, mixed by James Kenosha.
