Fleet Foxes are one of many indie bands contributing holiday songs to the soundtrack of the upcoming Michael Showalter-directed, Michelle Pfeiffer-starring Christmas comedy Oh. What. Fun., and their contribution–a cover of Elliott Smith‘s “Angel In The Snow”–is out today.
“‘Angel in the Snow’ has always been one of my favorite songs by Elliott, one I’d always listen to around the holidays, so it was a huge joy to make this for such a sweet film,” said Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold in a press release. “It wasn’t even my idea! Took me back to handing out ‘RIP Elliott’ flyers at my high school graduation in 2004. Elliott Smith forever.”
It’s a lovely cover, faithful to the original but also unmistakably Robin’s work, and you can hear it below. The soundtrack also features Sharon Van Etten’s recently-released cover of The Pretenders’ “2000 Miles,” as well as songs from St. Vincent, Weyes Blood, Jeff Tweedy, and more.
Oh. What. Fun. was produced by Amazon MGM Studios and comes to Prime Video on December 3.
