Lorne Trailer Puts the Spotlight on Iconic SNL Creator: Watch

1 week ago 17

The one enduring constant of Saturday Night Live (minus those years in the 1980s) has always been creator Lorne Michaels. However, beyond his occasional appearances in SNL sketches, he’s always been an enigmatic figure, something the new Focus Features documentary Lorne seeks to change.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from StardomMan on the Run), Lorne will explore the legacy of Michaels and SNL, featuring interviews with cast members and writers including Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, John Mulaney, Andy Samberg, Conan O’Brien, and Chris Rock.

Per an official release, “While SNL is one of the most examined and celebrated shows in television history, the man who built and sustained the institution for nearly five decades has largely remained out of view. Lorne reframes a cultural story audiences think they know, offering unprecedented access to the quiet force who shaped American comedy.”

Lorne will be released in theaters on April 17th, 2026. Check out the trailer below, and for more, check out our recent interview with SNL cast member Sarah Sherman.
