Metallica frontman James Hetfield proposed to his girlfriend Adriana Gillett during an underwater shark dive on Friday, March 13th.
As seen in a photo posted on Metallica’s social channels. the 62-year-old Hetfield held up a sign reading “Adriana Gillett, Will You Marry Me?” while underwater, and presented an engagement ring, with Gillett giving an enthusiastic thumb’s up. A caption reads, “She said yes!”
Gillett shed a little more light on the proposal, writing on her own Instagram, “The BEST birthday trip surprise. Swimming with whale sharks on Friday the 13th with the most unique, special, and romantic proposal a Pisces could ever imagine. In a sea full of fish, we caught each other. Thank you God for putting us together.”
Hetfield began dating Gillett after his divorce from his now ex-wife Francesca, whom he’d been married to for 25 years. They have three children together, including their son Castor, who plays drums in the band Bastardane.
The metal legend’s proposal to Gillett came shortly after Metallica sold out all 24 dates of their upcoming “Life Burns Faster” residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere (fans can still look for tickets via StubHub).
