After more than a decade and a half of silence in the studio, Mudvayne have officially returned with their first new single in 16 years, "Hurt People Hurt People."
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Korn, Alice In Chains, etc.) and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Gojira, Trivium), the track is the band's first release under Alchemy Recordings, the new label spearheaded by Dino Paredes (former American Recordings VP of A&R) and Danny Wimmer of Danny Wimmer Presents. The label also represents heavyweights like Staind and Chevelle.
Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray spoke on the meaning behind the new track: "I think I wrote this song as a reminder to myself to break the cycle. We create our own suffering, our own hurt. It's time for us to create self-love and let go of the pain. It was never ours to begin with."
The release marks the first new Mudvayne music since 2009, when the band dropped their self-titled fifth album. Though they reunited in 2021 to return to the live stage, fans have been eagerly awaiting fresh material. With "Hurt People Hurt People," the band breaks their 16-year drought and signals a new chapter in their legacy.
And it's not bad, but it's also… maybe a little too try-hard when it comes to attempting a nü-metal revival thing? Mudvayne's earlier stuff was so incredible because it was proggy and heavy, and this is a touch more butt rock. I genuinely do not see where the L.D. 50 comparisons are coming from.
