Paul Simon noted during his July 16th concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles that he doesn’t take requests, but when a fan offered him $20 to play “Kodachrome,” he took the cash and happily obliged.
A fan-captured video shows most of the interaction; At the beginning of his encore, a man in the crowd yelled out for Simon to play “Kodachrome,” a cut from his 1973 album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon that Simon hasn’t played live since 2019. “I don’t take requests but I’ll do some of it for $20,” Simon replied.
Seconds later, the man had his $20 ready and slid it over to Simon onstage, who took the money and then played about 90 seconds of the song. Watch a clip of the interaction below.
Despite battling hearing loss, Simon is back on the road completing the West Coast leg of his 2025 North American tour, which is his first extensive outing in seven years; previously, he cancelled a pair of shows in Philadelphia due to “chronic and intense back pain” that he needed immediate surgery for. He’ll make his way to San Francisco for a trio of shows starting this weekend, and will carry on through Vancouver and Seattle until August 3rd. @methsyndicateSome dude yelled out Kodachrome during Paul Simon’s set (he hasn’t played it since 2019) and he said “I don’t take requests but I’ll play some of it for $20 bucks) and then the dude whipped out $20 and Paul stuck to his word. Holy smokes I can’t believe that just happened. #paulsimon #kodachrome #fyp #foryoupage #simonandgarfunkel #graceland I love him so much.
