Following the Drag March on Friday night and the Dyke March on Saturday, the grand finale of Pride Month in NYC happened on Sunday with Heritage of Pride’s big Pride March. Hundreds of thousands of revelers took to the streets of Manhattan to attend the 55th annual edition of what’s always a colorful, boisterous affair, and this year’s theme was “Rise Up: Pride in Protest.”
The march officially kicked off at noon with the Sirens MC, with politicians coming through earlier. Among them this year, less than a week after the Democratic mayoral primary, was Zohran Mamdani, beaming and carrying a trans pride flag, and walking with Letitia James and her group (Brad Lander also joined them). His appearance got a huge response from excited onlookers, who he frequently stopped to shake hands and take selfies with. Mamdani also made an appearance at Reclaim Pride’s non-corporate, politically focused Queer Liberation March on Sunday.
