Red Dead Redemption 2 fans are losing their minds over a recently discovered Easter egg that’s been hidden in the game for more than seven years.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was first released in 2018 and went on to become one of the best-selling video games of all time. Despite millions of players taking to the Old West, one of the game’s secrets has only just been discovered.
Eagle-eyed fans have discovered the symbol of a spider on a telegraph pole in the middle of The Heartlands. Using this symbol with the map reveals eight more spider telegraph poles which lead to a spooky looking tree. After following a few more clues, a secret message is revealed which involves a guitar and the hint “NW”.
As it stands, players aren’t sure where to go next but hundreds of Red Dead Redemption 2 fans are currently trying to solve this ancient mystery. “This is the biggest discovery in Red Dead Redemption 2 in years and it’s only just the beginning,” wrote one fan on Reddit.
A completely new mystery has been found in Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time and the community is losing its mind over it.
This is a real easter egg, designed by Rockstar and has gone completely unnoticed for 7 years.

Some fans believe the spider webs are connected to a similar Grand Theft Auto 5 Easter egg known as the Chiliad Mystery while others are worried the hidden quest was meant to tease a now-scrapped expansion.
“Rockstar will spend years creating the most interesting, obtuse easter egg hunts and then forget to have them actually lead to anything,” wrote one fan. “Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of my favourite games of all time and was way ahead of its time when it came to details and hidden stuff. This proves it,” added another.
You can keep up with all the developments and theories via the dedicated Red Dead Mysteries subreddit.
Last year The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan said he’d star in a live-action adaptation of Red Dead Redemption “in a heartbeat”. In 2024, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser claimed the reason why Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption had never been adapted was because the studio wouldn’t have full creative control . “The risk never made sense. In those days, the perception was that games made poor-quality movies [but] it’s a different time now.”
In other news, Xbox suffered its “worst year on record” for console sales in the UK last year.
