Samuel L Jackson has been confirmed as the star of NOLA King, the first spin-off of Paramount+ show Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone.

Jackson’s character will be introduced in the third season of Tulsa King, where Stallone plays a former New York mob boss exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he begins to build a new crew of his own. NOLA King will see the Marvel star try something similar in his old home town of New Orleans.

The official synopsis reads: “NOLA KING follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) during a 10-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all”.

“Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned 40 years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family and friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York, and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop”.

In a press release Stallone, who will executive produce the spin-off alongside Jackson, described the spin off as “a game-changing idea to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise. I was immediately on board. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA”.

Season three of Tulsa King will premiere on Paramount+ in September, while NOLA King will arrive at a date yet to be announced.

Jackson is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood history, known for films such as Pulp Fiction, The Incredibles, and as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite being a legend of the business, in April his wife, theatre director LaTanya Richardson Jackson, described him as “hard” to direct when they work together because he “thinks he knows everything”.
