Snail Mail has announced her first album in five years, revealed its first single, “Dead End,” and mapped an upcoming tour set to kick off this spring.

The 11-song album is called Ricochet and comes out on March 27th via Matador Records. According to a press release, it features Lindsey Jordan returning “with a renewed sense of clarity and control” explores “time, mortality, and the quiet terror of watching the things you love slip away.” Notably, Ricochet marks Jordan’s first release since she underwent surgery in 2021 for vocal polyps and intensive speech therapy.

Jordan wrote all of instrumentals and vocal melodies on the piano or guitar, and then I filled in the lyrics all at once over a year. She then recorded the album with producer and bassist Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma) at Fidelitorium Recordings in North Carolina, as well as Nightfly and Studio G in Brooklyn.

With the announcement of the album comes its first single, “Dead End,” which reflects on the innocence of suburban adolescence. With a powerful lead guitar, a grunge aesthetic, and tense, reflective hooks, it invokes the nostalgia of childhood years to great effect. Listen to it below.

The supporting tour commences April 10th in Milwaukee and includes stops in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Asheville, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, Las Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Vancouver, and more, before wrapping up at Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City on May 15th. She’ll be joined by Sharp Pins, Avalon Emerson and The Charm, Swirlies, Armlock, and Rocket for select shows. Tickets go on sale beginning Friday, January 23rd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
