The Lemonheads Unveil Two New Songs, “Deep End” and “Sad Cinderella”: Stream

The Lemonheads have offered two new songs as a preview for their comeback album Love Chant“Deep End,” which features guest guitar work from Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis and backing vocals from Juliana Hatfield, and “Sad Cinderella,” a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s 1972 original.

“Deep End,” an original offering from The Lemonheads, reprises the band’s scrappy, guitar-forward rock sound. Frontman Evan Dando mutters the verses in his signature slacker baritone as the song’s central guitar riff rises and falls down the fretboard. J Mascis then arrives for a ripping solo in between the verses and during the bridge, with Julianna Hatfield also providing light harmonies over Dando. “Deep End” arrives with a black-and-white, movement-driven video filmed on location in São Paulo, Brazil. Meanwhile, “Sad Cinderella” is a significant tone shift from “Deep End.” This time, Dando’s baritone is more earnest and clean, with Nashville vocalist Erin Rae joining the frontman on harmony. The arrangement is barebones and faithful to Van Zandt’s original, emphasizing tenderness and folky majesty. Stream “Sad Cinderella” below.

Love Chant serves as The Lemonheads’ first new album in 19 years and is set to arrive in October 2025. “I’m really excited about our new record Love Chant coming out on FIRE,” Dando said of the new release. “I have a feeling people are really gonna enjoy it. It was made with Love, Fire and Chanting. It will be out fall 2025.” The group is supporting Love Chant with a handful of tour dates in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe; get tickets to see The Lemonheads here.
