Watch Haywire’s video for “Always By My Side”

Hardcore band of the year contender Haywire are still in the middle of the what feels like the longest tour schedule ever, which included stops in literally all 50 states, and their road plans already extend into 2026. The only new music they put out this year though was the Shirts vs. Skins split EP with No Guard (with two new songs by each band plus each band covering the other), which followed both a debut album and an EP in 2024. They put out a video for “Summer Nights” back in June, and now they’ve also got a video for their other original song on that split, “Always By My Side.”

The song finds Haywire leaning heavily into their gritty-yet-melodic Oi! side and it’s one of their catchiest, most anthemic tracks yet. The Jeff Landreville-directed clip was shot during the band’s wild set at Back to School Jam at Boston’s Lynch Family Skate Park in August, and here’s what bandleader Austin Sparkman tells us about the song and video:

I was adopted at the age of 13 by a low income family. They had next to nothing while I was growing up. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been able to do the things I am doing today. I spent a lot of that time wanting to grow up and move away. When I finally did I was adopted by a group of people at 17 who also had nothing. All my younger years were spent with people that had nothing to give but their company. This is a song about all of those people.

This video was shot at the Lynch Family Skate Park in Boston on 8/2/25 as part of an event we do called “Back to School Jam.” A free event with a suggested donation of school supplies. We were able to collect 700 backpacks with a year’s full of school supplies in each one for children that were like me as a kid. This is Boston hardcore, all day every day.
