Watch Icelandic newcomers Amor Vincit Omnia in session

During last year's Airwaves festival, Best Fit met the young duo – producer Baldur Skúlason and singer Erla Hlín Guðmundsdóttir – to record a playful take on 'breakup' song "Ber", which showcases the eccentric sound of their new EP Extended babe, released last week.

"The Icelandic word 'ber' means berry, as well as being naked or exposed," Erla and Baldur explain. "The song "Ber" is a strangely sensual breakup song, written at a time when one of us was going through a breakup while the other was falling in love. We wrote the lyrics together but saw all the words from completely different perspectives, so it’s kind of a twisted take on goodbyes. These themes of doubt, joy, trust and erotica found in Ber also linger throughout the whole EP, put in a facade of fantasy."

Taking their name from the Latin for 'Love Conquers All', Amor Vincit Omnia head to the US for The New Colossus festival in New York next, and then to Texas for three shows at SXSW, including the opening slot at Best Fit's official party, along with TTSSFU, Sex Mask, Hemi Hemingway, Sarah Meth and cootie catcher.

The session is supported by Record in Iceland, a reimbursement scheme offered by Iceland’s Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education that gives anyone who records their music in Iceland a 25% refund on recording costs incurred in Iceland. All you need to do is submit the total cost related to your recording – including travel, wages and even post-production like mixing and mastering. The refund will go through in the following quarter. It’s that easy – and makes Iceland the smart and easy choice for anyone wanting to find an inspiring location to record their next album.
