The Melbourne/Naarm-based band, led by Dylan Young, started their day with a three-song set on the piano stage as part of Best Fit’s secret sessions. Their chosen cover — every piano stage alum plays one — was a lonely folk ballad long since lost to history, “Please Stop Breaking Me Down” by Ritchie Tierney. They’ve covered the track before, a niche pull from a compilation album called Someone Like Me, a collection that ”honours the fleeting amateurism of hobby musicians,” according to the Bandcamp description. It was released in 2024 by the Melbourne label Efficient Space. “Please Stop Breaking Me Down” is the album closer and was revived from Tierney’s hyper-rare, out-of-print album For You, released in 1981. It’s the only song attached to Tierney’s name across streaming platforms. There are more Google results for the Way Dynamic cover than the original. Having warmed up for the set by playing with yo-yos, they were talked into a reluctant on-stage demonstration after wrapping “Miffed It”, from last year’s Massive Shoe album.
