Bass heads are well aware that T-Pain has been dabbling in dubstep as of late. Now, you can watch one of his sets from beginning to end.
This past festival season, bass heads couldn’t believe their eyes. T-Pain DJing at Lost Lands? Surely, there must be some kind of mistake. But the R&B producer who famously popularized heavy autotune has, in fact, embarked on a foray into dubstep, and we now have an hour of video evidence.
The footage — whose sound quality leaves something to be desired — was captured at T-Pain’s debut headline set for his Bass Bootcamp event at District Atlanta in late December. “I wanna apologize to all the people that didn’t read the whole advertisement and don’t know what the fuck is going on right now,” he joked over the mic before unleashing a barrage of IDs ranging from melodic and soulful to dirty and visceral.
The rest of his set largely consisted of unnamed originals, remixes of songs like his and Chris Brown‘s “Kiss Kiss” and “RATATA” by Skrillex, and collaborations with artists like PEEKABOO, San Holo, and IVORY. T-Pain’s showing made a statement. It communicated loudly and clearly that he’s pursuing bass music as more than a passive interest.
T-Pain’s appearance alongside DJ Diesel at Lost Lands set in September 2025 was not included on the annual bass music mecca’s publicly announced lineup, making it a buzzed-about stunt at the tail end of the festival season. In 2026, the two world-famous crossover acts are set to perform back to back once again at this year’s edition of Electric Forest.
