EQUUS unlocks his vault on an electrifying hard dance guest mix featuring the best of his originals and remixes for his Paradigm Shift debut!
The American Hard Dance scene consistently produces some of the most unique talent in the industry, and that’s no secret. Artists who have worked hard to build something completely different from Europe make up its foundation, but that doesn’t mean that the traditional harder styles are taking a back seat. Producers such as EQUUS are mastering genres like euphoric hardstyle and rawstyle, proving that US producers can operate on the same level as the greats.
Before dedicating himself to hardstyle, EQUUS was greatly inspired by Alan Walker’s older style, so much so that he wanted to pursue dubstep when he started producing music in September of 2019. But everything changed for him when he discovered hard dance music on New Year’s Day 2020, through NIVIRO’s track “Diamond” on the NCS YouTube channel. EQUUS still had a passion for bass music, but the harder styles took control. In late 2020, he decided to go all in on hard dance.
Today, EQUUS advocates for the growth of the genre in the States. “Fortunately, hard dance seems to be gaining popularity here,” he told EDM Identity. “I hope hard dance in the US can be at the same level as it is in Europe. With the amount of incredibly talented DJs here, I think it’s possible.”
Apart from his own project, EQUUS continues to contribute to the scene’s growth as the owner of ROGUE Records. Luckily, he’s always on the hunt for the freshest sounds, and he encourages homegrown artists to get connected with him for future releases on the label.
But today is all about EQUUS as he stopped by to make his debut on our hard dance mix series, Paradigm Shift! For a little over 30 minutes, he opens his vault with a mix filled with his own tracks from across the hard dance spectrum. Listeners will get a taste of his best originals like “Detonate,” “Stealing Christmas,” and “Mystery” with R3sspawn, in addition to a banging remix of the iconic “Tremor” and an upcoming remix of “Into The Rift (Fracture Point)” by Extella!
Hard dance is very special to me for a few reasons, but primarily because it is by far my favorite genre to both produce and just listen to. To me, there’s nothing quite like it. While I have my preferences, I love all sub-genres of hard dance, and while I think all types of EDM are great, the energy and sounds of hard dance are simply unmatched in my opinion.
