Flying Lotus announces remastered 1983 reissue for Record Store Day

6 days ago 7

Originally released in 2006 on Plug Research, 1983 marked the first LP from Steven Ellison as Flying Lotus. The record was made in his grandmother’s bedroom and drew from J Dilla, jazz, and Brazilian syncopation. He recalls the label telling him at the time, "Give us the weird shit."

The album arrives remastered on limited edition gold splatter vinyl, housed in an iridescent gold metallic sleeve with emboss detail. Artwork is by Brandy Flower, with design and layout by Adam Stover. The reissue is released via Brainfeeder, Ellison’s own imprint, in what the label calls a full-circle moment.

The announcement follows FlyLo's seven-track Big Mama EP from last month and last year's science fiction horror film Ash, which he both wrote and directed.
