Game of Thrones Movie in Development from Andor Writer Beau Willimon

Turns out Warner Bros. is capable of producing drama that doesn’t involve who’s gonna own it in the future. The studio is currently developing a new movie from the world of Game of Thrones, according to Page Six Hollywood, with House of Cards showrunner and Andor producer Beau Willimon writing the script.

Page Six Hollywood reports that the proposed film may focus on the character of Aegon I, whose violent reign united (most of) Westeros. Aegon’s fun nicknames include Aegon the Conqueror and Aegon the Dragon; his time as ruler preceded the events of Game of Thrones by about 300 years, and preceded House of the Dragon by 100 years. (The most recent spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is set in between the two series, approximately several decades after House of the Dragon.)

A theatrical Game of Thrones film doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch, though the project’s fate may depend on how the ongoing Warner Bros.-Paramount deal evolves. Still, a look at Paramount’s 2025 slate indicates that the studio loves IP-based storytelling, so Aegon’s war for dominance might fare better than the original WB projects currently in development.

For more Westeros fun, here’s the team from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on its cheeky nods to Game of Thrones in the premiere. (Pun intended.)
