1 week ago 11

Remember when Buzz Lightyear came into the picture with his digital voice box and light-up laser? All that newfangled tech threw Andy’s toy box into chaos. Well, technology has advanced a lot in the last 30 years, and now there’s an “all-new threat to playtime”: touch screens. That’s the basic plot of Toy Story 5, which just received its first full-length trailer. Watch the preview below, followed by the movie’s new poster.

Arriving July 19th, Toy Story 5 finds the ol’ gang — Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Forky (Tony Hale), et al. — calling a balding Woody (Tom Hanks) in from the wild and recruiting a whole army of Buzzes as they face the latest smart device innovation in toys. Greta Lee joins the cast as Lilypad, “a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet” that young Bonnie finds herself completely enamored with, distracting here from more making actual connections with kids her age. And that’s not the only newfangled threat facing the toys, as Conan O’Brien is voicing a toilet training tech toy called Smarty Pants.

Written and directed by Andrew Stanton (co-writer of all four previous Toy Story films and director of WALL•EFinding Nemo, and Finding Dory) with co-director/screenwriter Kenna Harris, Toy Story 5 also stars Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl (replacing the late Carl Weathers) and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog. Craig Robinson will reportedly voice a character called Atlas, while Anna Faris is said to be involved in an undisclosed role.
