For those wondering why Frank Castle hasn’t appeared in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, it’s partially because Jon Bernthal was off filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and the Punisher’s own standalone special. Now, we have our first look at The Punisher: One Last Kill, the Marvel Special Presentation premiering May 12th on Disney+.
Details remain pretty scare on the project, though the new trailer lives up to the official synopsis: “As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight.” The trailer shows a Punisher haunted by his violent past and visions of his friend, Curtis Hoyle (Jason R. Moore, who returns from the original Netflix Punisher series). With a city apparently thrown into chaos, it looks like Castle will have to break his peace in order to find it again.
The special was co-written by Bernthal and director Reinaldo Marcus Green; the pair previously worked together on King Richard and the HBO miniseries We Own This City. While a handful of cast members have been named (Roe Rancell as Dennis, Mil Jaymes as Charli, Jamal Lloyd Johnson as Barry), there’s no word yet on who will play one of the special’s primary antagonists, rumored to be Ma Gnucci.
