“What You Want” arrives as Angèle's first English language single, following her 2018 breakout debut album Brol, which saw her launch to pop stardom across Belgium and France, a collaboration with Dua Lipa on her track “Fever”, and her second album Nonante-Cinq, released in 2021, which saw her sell out arena tours and make festival appearances, including a slot at Coachella in 2023.
In addition to being her first plunge into English songwriting, the new track sees Angèle delve further into the world of electronic music, and accompanied by a video created with (LA)HORDE (Madonna, Sam Smith, Christine and the Queens).
Justice, who have historically been selective about their collaborators — though recently featured the likes of Tame Impala, Thundercat, Miguel, and more on their 2024 album, Hyperdrama — were first introduced to Angèle when they met after she attended one of their shows, leading them to spend time in the studio. She showed the pair a song that was still in development, instructing them to “Do what you want with it”, which they would then turn into “What You Want”.
