Khemmis have announced a new self-titled album due out June 12th via Nuclear Blast Records, and have unveiled its lead single, “Invocation of the Dreamer.”

Alongside news of the new LP, the progressive doom metal band has also announced two tours. The first is a headlining tour featuring support from Necrofier and Wretched. That will kick off on June 19th in Vancouver, British Columbia, and continue till July 2nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The second is a supporting tour with Monolord, who have a new record due out shortly themselves in May and whose single “You Bastard” was recently named our Heavy Song of the Week. That outing kicks off August 27th in Chicago and runs until September 10th in Indianapolis. Tickets to both tours are available here.

Khemmis will also play a special one-off show with Acid Bath and Chat Pile on May 16th in Oklahoma City, with tickets available here.

The new single “Invocation of the Dreamer” is relatively short for the otherwise macro-scale group but still contains the trademark epic doom pacing and evolving melodies and harmonies that typifies their work.

Regarding the tighter structures, the band said, “We decided early in the songwriting process that we wanted to write a tight, high-energy album that retained the essential ‘Khemmis sound’ while also embodying the joy of creating, experiencing, and loving heavy metal.”

The upcoming album is the band’s first with new bassist David Small, who joined the group in 2022. It is also their second self-titled release, following the debut EP from the band in 2013.

“Ours have always been deeply personal songs born from tragedy and sorrow,” said the band. “While the songs on Khemmis are still undeniably dark—I don’t think we’re capable of writing ‘happy’ music nor can we disentangle our music from our own personal experiences—they are not mined from our suffering.”

“Instead, this record is a celebration of the music world that has sustained us, both individually and collectively, and has also gifted us with community and a sense of meaning.”
