Olivia Wilde’s career as a director has experienced a wild twist or two: Her first film Booksmart was a very solid teen comedy, but then her second film, the Florence Pugh/Harry Styles thriller Don’t Worry Darling, received mixed reviews. (Though a few people did really like it.) Now, Wilde returns with A24’s The Invite, directing and also starring in the movie alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton.
Here’s the official description, courtesy of A24: “Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?” If you’re interested in more details on the plot, The Invite was a Sundance 2026 premiere, which means there are several reviews now online. However, if you don’t care about spoilers, all you need to know is that at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s safe to say the movie received a positive reception at the festival.
This isn’t the first collaboration we’ve seen between Rogen and Wilde: Wilde made a memorable guest appearance as herself in the first season of the Apple TV The Studio, which Rogen co-created and also starred in. It’s also a bit of a Freaks and Geeks reunion, as The Invite was written by Rashida Jones and her regular writing partner Will McCormack — Jones appeared in one episode of the cult favorite series on which Rogen starred.
The Invite will be sent to theaters on June 26th, 2026. Check out the full trailer below.
