“Hymn from the Hills” continues Poison Ruin’s metallic fantasy-punk hybrid sound. It features a driving twin-guitar attack reminiscent of traditional heavy metal in the vein of Thin Lizzy married to vocals straight out of the Philly punk gutters, offering a keen union of high and low.

Where Poison Ruin’s earliest material showcased a somewhat marked separation of the dungeon synth and metal-punk songwriting, this single showcases their development toward a more fully syncretic style. It joins debut single “Eidolon” in showcasing a slight shift toward material rooted in ’70s heavy and fantasy rock, at times feeling like a punk take on Uriah Heap or the frillier its of a group like Rainbow.

Hymn from the Hills will be out April 3rd via Relapse Records. Poison Ruin will kick off a North American tour in support of the album on April 11th, with tickets available here.
