Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin, who’s been in a myriad of legal trouble over the past decade, has avoided prison time in a domestic battery and drug possession case stemming from an incident that took place last year.

As TMZ reports, the rock frontman has instead been placed in a one-year diversion program and must complete a drug rehabilitation stint.

Scantlin was arrested in March 0f 2025 in Torrance, California, when police were called to an apartment where the singer allegedly got into a physical altercation with his girlfriend. While there, officers also discovered drugs at the scene.

Now, a judge has accepted a plea deal that allows Scantlin to take part in a diversion program and enter drug rehab in lieu of jail time. Diversion programs usually include education to prevent future criminal activity, restitution to victims, and community service.

Meanwhile, Puddle of Mudd just released the appropriately titled single and video “Free” from the band’s 2025 album Kiss the Machine (watch below).

“Everybody goes through life with ups and downs, and you can find your way,” says Scantlin of the song. “Along the way, people come around and they’re not your people. Accept the people who are trying to help you.”

Additionally, Scantlin is working on an autobiography, with his brother as a co-author.
