Since forming in 2019, the trio Rhododendron have been a regular fixture in the live music scene of their native Portland, Oregon, earning a reputation for prog-y, big-swinging experimental rock. They'll be bringing that sound to the masses this spring with Ascent Effort, their latest LP and first for new label home the Flesner. Today the trio are announcing the album with "Firmament," a dose of anxious, intense post-rock that gets a little math-y and a little post hardcore-y in its eight-minute sprawl.
A press release says Ascent Effort is about "a period of change defined as much by instability as progress, where confusion and renewal unfold at the same pace," and I'm getting a sense of all those emotions in "Firmament." Check that out below along with the full album tracklist, which is only five songs, so I'm guessing there's some more long and unrelenting music afoot.
