During a new interview with Mikey Piff on SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2), Stella Lefty revealed the inspiration behind her new song, “Lean In Kiss Me,” explaining that she wrote the track with frequent collaborator and best friend Grace Enger during a rainy morning writing session in Nashville. As they worked on the song, Stella and Grace found themselves thinking about the uncertainty and excitement of having feelings for a friend as teenagers. “We were trying to channel when we were like 15 years old and we had a crush on someone that was in our friend circle,” Stella said. “You just had this deep feeling about them, but you were so afraid to ruin the friendship or let them know because what if they didn’t like you back?” Ultimately, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter described “Lean In Kiss Me” as a song about taking that romantic risk: “It’s about the shooting of the shot.” During the interview, the “SiriusXM Hits 1 One to Watch” and “Highway Find” also reflected on the emotional experience of performing at her hometown Lollapalooza and teased her upcoming debut album, Long Way Home.
