Animal Collective’s Dave Portner and Brian Weitz unveil instrumental project, Croz Boyce, and announce self-titled album

5 days ago 6

Croz Boyce emerges from a creative collaboration that has existed between the two musicians for over two decades as members of Animal Collective. Today, “Hanging Out With a Blueberry Pop” arrives as the first preview of their first body of work under the new moniker, and is described as a giddy representation of two friends who enjoy making music together.

The initial partnership between Portner and Weitz began with Animal Collective's “Brown Thrasher", their contribution to the For the Birds compilation album. The track came together as a simple, acoustic note-based track composed by the pair, leading them to continue working together, exchanging music back and forth while their fellow bandmates worked on other projects. Croz Boyce is set to arrive as the product of that exchange, consisting of nine tracks which feature both electric and acoustic string instruments, synthesisers, and percussion, with Animal Collective’s Josh Dibb (Deakin) providing additional mixing and mastering by Taylor Deupree.
