Due for release later this year, Loud Bloom sees the 44-year-old Swedish producer continue to explore the intersection of functional dance music and experimental composition. A range of international vocalists feature across the record's fourteen tracks, including Sudanese Cairo-based singer MaMan, South African MC Toya Delazy, and Colombian percussionist and MC Diva Cruz.
The album’s lead single, “Echoed Dafnino”, features MaMan and evolved from a DJ tool into a standalone track. Dreijer explains that the song began as a personal edit for his own sets before taking on a new shape in the studio. “I was so moved the first time I heard the original version of ‘Dafnino’,” he says. “Maman’s voice is so beautiful. I wanted to make it work in my DJ sets, so I made my own version that I felt became more than just a remix.”
The album’s collaborative approach reflects a deliberate shift in Dreijer’s working methods, with the producer looking beyond the typical networks of Western electronic music. “After taking a break I’m very happy to have arrived at allowing myself to just have fun with my own music again,” he notes. “I’m very grateful to be able to work with music and through music connect with these different collaborators from different parts of the world.”
Loud Bloom follows a string of recent singles and EPs for labels including Hessle Audio, Dekmantel and AD93, marking the most sustained period of solo activity from the former Knife member since his Oni Ayhun project in the late 2000s.
The visual identity for the new album continues Dreijer’s recent engagement with abstract art, featuring his own luminescent acrylic works alongside direction from his partner, creative director and costume designer Suelem De Oliveira Da Silva.
