Nara’s Room reveal new record Tearless, thoughtless for May release; share Linda Ronstadt-inspired centrepiece “Tucson”

Set for a 15 May release via Mtn Laurel Recording Co, the 11-track record follows their 2024 debut Glassy star and an appearance at Best Fit's SXSW party last year.

"Tucson" finds the band's central creative forced Nara Avakian weaving together personal history and broader cultural memory in a song that draws from an unlikely source: the final scene of a biographical documentary about Linda Ronstadt. Using the loss of Ronstadt's voice to parallel their own struggles, Avakian – who uses they/them pronouns – reconciles with images and memories of their Armenian heritage.

"The song was inspired by the final scene... where she is singing with her family in her Tucson living room,” Avakian says. “It’s about intergenerational trauma and the Genocide of the Armenian people, and my attempts to reconcile the past, present, and future marked by my family’s loss of their home and their identity.”

The lyrics fold in multiple cultural touchpoints – from the Middle Eastern lament “I search from the river to the sea” to a reference to Sergei Parajanov’s 1969 film The Color of Pomegranates, which holds personal significance: Avakian’s own name translates to the deep red of pomegranates in Armenian, a detail that threads through the album’s concerns with heritage and selfhood.

Ahead of the release, the band play three shows in New York; at Union Pool on the 17 March, Reason and Ruckus on the 21 March and Silver Stream Studios in Montclair, NJ on 21 March.
